HUD Finding to Closure: What a Complete Corrective Action Response Looks Like

Clarity Matters

Corrective-action responses can become complicated when several findings, documents, and follow-up requests are involved. A strong response makes it easy to understand the issue and the action the organization has taken.

Show That the Issue Was Actually Addressed

HUD generally needs more than an assurance that the organization will comply in the future. The response should demonstrate that the identified condition has been addressed and provide appropriate support for that conclusion.

Support the Response With the Right Documentation

The documentation will depend on the finding. It may involve policies, records, approvals, financial information, training, reports, or other evidence. The important point is that the support should relate directly to the corrective action being described.

Strengthen the Process Going Forward

Where appropriate, the organization should also consider whether a procedure, review step, training effort, or other operational change would reduce the risk of recurrence.
